WorldlyChat

About

An independent app about meeting people

WorldlyChat started from a simple frustration: it is genuinely difficult to meet people in another country before you get there, and most apps that promise to help are really trying to sell you something else.

What it is

A free web app where you build a profile, map the places you have been and want to go, share short posts, and talk in real time with people around the world. It is used mostly by travellers, exchange students and language learners, and it is built and maintained independently in Italy — not by a company with an advertising department.

What it is not

How it is built

WorldlyChat is a single-page web app written in React with TypeScript and Vite, deployed on Vercel, with Supabase handling accounts, data and real-time messaging from a European region, and Cloudinary for images. Account deletion and data handling are built to comply with the GDPR: you can remove your account and its content from the settings, and the Privacy Policy explains what is stored and why.

Where to start

If you are new, how it works explains the app in five steps. If you have a specific reason to be here, there are guides for language exchange, for Erasmus and study abroad, and for travelling.

The app is free and open to anyone. Have a look around.
